Bats Stay Hot in 9-4 Win

Another promising game for the Pirates resulted in a victory over the Braves 9-4. The team looked great in all aspects of play in this final game of the series. The team has now won two games in a row. Ivan Nova pitched another efficient outing going 8.1 innings giving up 10 hits, four runs, one walk and one strikeout. 

Adam Frazier continued his surge since coming off the DL with his second three-run homer in as many days. The Pirates scored five in the second including the home run and a Gift Ngoepe infield single. The bottom of the order hit well to help get the job done. Francisco Cervelli and Jory Mercer both drove in two runs. Cervelli went 4-for-5 and Josh Harrison 3-for-4 with a walk.

Bartolo Colón pitched for Atlanta and struggled throughout. Colón went five innings giving up 10 hits and seven runs. The Braves scored all four runs in the last three innings of the game. Ender Inciarte, Brandon Phillips, Rio Ruiz and Dansby Swanson drove in the runs for Atlanta as they drop the final game of four. The teams split the series as the Pirates improved to 22-26.

The Pirates return to PNC Park Friday night against the New York Mets. Chad Kuhl will start for the Bucs opposite Zack Wheeler for the Mets.
