The Pirates showed us how they can display passion on and off the field Tuesday night. This team is having so much fun and is very interesting to watch. Starling Marte is getting back in the fold and the team is taking him in. This win today, 3-2 in 10 innings, proves that everyone can contribute. It is, as the AT&T SportsNet broadcasters say, “Very fun to watch.”
Max Moroff drove in winning run on a walk off single. He provided a key hit to boost his confidence in a really feel good time. Josh Harrison and Francisco Cervelli both collected three hits. Marte, Gregory Polanco, and Jordy Mercer also had a hit and David Freese recorded two. Tony Watson collected the win pitching a scoreless 10th. Gerrit Cole pitched well to quiet his critics going seven innings giving up one runs, no walks, and 10 strikeouts.
Milwaukee got a big homer from Domingo Santana in the top of 8th to break a 1-1 tie. Old Pirate friend and relief pitcher Jared Hughes recorded the loss for the Brewers. Jesús Aguilar and Santana drove in the only runs and Santana had three hits with Aguilar recording one. Zach Davies started and went seven giving up eight hits, one run (zero earned), one walk and four strikeouts.
The two teams will finish this series Thursday at 12:35PM at PNC Park. Jimmy Nelson will face Jameson Taillon in the getaway game.
