Bucs Fall 4-3 as Bullpen Collapses

The Pirates mini two-game win streak in Milwaukee to begin the series has come to an end in a 4-3 loss to the Brewers. The team in general played really well before a disappointing 7th inning. Trevor Williams got into a little trouble and Tony Watson was brought on to try to clean up the mess. The runs were charged to Williams and Daniel Hudson gave up the winning run with two outs in the same inning.

The bats provided enough offense to give the Bucs a chance. Josh Bell hit his 13th home run of the season and Andrew McCutchen delivered another hit and a couple walks. Adam Frazier collected three hits including two doubles, Josh Harrison had two, and Jordy Mercer and John Jaso each recorded a hit. Harrison and Jaso also collected an RBI along with Bell. Williams pitched well going six innings and giving up six hits while striking out a career high seven batters.

Junior Guerra started for the Brewers and went  five innings. Guerra gave up seven hits, three runs, five walks, and six strikeouts. Domingo Santana drove in three runs including the game-winning two-run home run in the bottom of the 7th. Eric Thames also had an RBI groundout. The Milwaukee offense came though at key times to give them the win.

The series concludes Thursday at 2:10 PM at Miller Park. Chase Anderson will start for the Brewers opposite Ivan Nova for the Pirates.
