The story of the Pirates season continued today; get close enough to make it interesting and fun to watch and then fall apart. It has happened over these past 11 days as the team has dropped five games in the standings after today’s loss. The Dodgers won their 90th game as they look to try to break the record for most wins in a season of 116.
The Dodger bats were good again being very productive in the late innings. Yasmani Grandal and Adrian Gonzalez hit back to back jacks in the 8th off of Angel Sanchez. Curtis Granderson hit a home run earlier in the game that bounced off the Riverwalk and into the river. Hyun-Jin Ryu pitched very well going six while giving up one run on four hits, two walks, and also striking out two.
The Pirates offense was not bad while Chad Kuhl pitched well in a short outing. He took the loss, pitching only four innings as he gave up six hits, two runs, and five walks. The five walks is concerning along with only striking out just two batters. Jordy Mercer and Adam Frazier drove in both runs for the Pirates in the second straight game that the team scored under two runs. Josh Harrison and David Freese both collected a hit. Sanchez made his major league debut today pitching the last two innings of the game.
