Bucs Lose Series After Marathon Game

The Pirates fell to Arizona 6-5 in 14 innings in a game that lasted 4 hours and 40 minutes. It also included a long rain delay in between. The team used 23 players out of the 25 on the active roster. 

Adam Frazier regression continued as he went a disappointing 0-for-7 at the plate. Andrew McCutchen went 2-for-4 with two walks. The offense provided at key times beside the 14th inning as the team tied the game in the 9th and 11th. Jordy Mercer homered in the 11th with two outs to extend the game that led to an hour and half rain delay. Chad Kuhl was OK in his start today only giving up two runs over five innings. Gregory Polanco and Jose Osuna also drove in a run each.

The Diamondbacks held on and their pitching held up. T.J. McFarland recieved the win defeating Jhan Maríñez. Paul Goldschmidt and Nick Ahmed both hit solo home runs to lead the charge. Chris Owings drove in the winning run singling to right. Zack Godley also pitched well going six innings giving up one run and striking out six. The D-Backs recorded 14 hits and the one that counted most in the 14th.

Following the game, the Pirates made a couple roster moves. They placed Alen Hanson on waivers and sent Gift Ngoepe to Triple-A Indy and called up Max Moroff and Phil Gosselin.

The Pirates are off tomorrow as they head to New York to play the Mets at Citi Field on Friday. The game starts at 7:10PM as Mets right hander Matt Harvey opposes Gerrit Cole for the Bucs.
