Cubs 1, Pirates 0

The same old story of the season for the Pirates continued Wednesday night. Gerrit Cole pitched great, but like many other games he’s started, a no-decision was recorded. A three-game winning streak has come to an end and the Pirates showed flashes of good things to come in the future. The young players have played and performed well in the opportunities that they have been given.

The Pirate offense had no answer for Jose Quintana. Quintana went six innings giving up six hits, no runs, walking one, and also striking out six. Hector Rendón, Pedro Strop, and Wade Davis pitched three scoreless innings in relief. Alex Avila tripled in pinch runner Leonys Martin in the 8th inning.

Daniel Hudson took the loss. He walked Anthony Rizzo and gave up the winning run two batters later. Gerrit Cole was great going eight giving up no runs, only two hits, and striking out eight. He also walked four batters. Cole along with Rodríguez, Osuna, Freese, Stewart, and Andrew McCutchen all collected a hit.

The two teams will battle again Thursday at PNC Park at 7:05PM. Jon Lester will face Jameson Taillon in the finale of this four-game set.
