This game was a laugher in the 2nd inning when the Cubs added on five runs to their already 4-1 lead to take a commanding early lead and cruising to a 14-3 win in the first game of this series.
Pirates starter Chad Kuhl didn’t have it tonight as he was hit hard for eight hits, nine runs in just 1.2 innings. Jason Heyward belted a three-run homer in the 1st inning and Ben Zobrist delivered the crushing blow in the 2nd inning with a three-run double.
The only positives from this game was Jose Osuna’s bat as he went 3-for-4 with a triple and double. He had a chance for a cycle in the 8th inning, but grounded out.
And Dovydas Neverauskas made his ML debut after being called up before the game when Adam Frazier hit the 10-day DL with a hamstring injury. Neverauskas is the first Lithuanian to play in the Majors. He fired two innings of relief, allowing one run on two hits and one strikeout. He had 8.1 scoreless innings this season at Triple-A Indy.
The Pirates and Cubs will be back at it tomorrow night hopefully with a more competitive game. First pitch is set for 7:05PM with Gerrit Cole pitching against Kyle Hendricks.
