This game was over early for the Pirates and nothing ever clicked. Chicago took an early lead in rout to a 8-2 win. The starting pitching was good and the hitters performed even better. Anthony Rizzo drove in two and Albert Almora Jr. hit his 6th homer of the season also scoring Rizzo.
Jon Lester was very good both pitching and hitting. He pitched six innings of one run ball giving up five hits while walking four and striking out five. He also helped his cause in the 4th with an RBI double off Jameson Taillon.
Taillon struggled again Thursday as his rocky second half continued. He only managed to go 4.2 innings while giving up six runs on 11 hits. He did walk one batter but only managed to record three strikeouts. Josh Bell and Jordan Luplow both drove in runs the latter bringing in Andrew McCutchen. Chris Bostick in the 9th collected his first major league hit on a double.
The Pirates will travel to St. Louis on Friday to play the Cardinals. Trevor Williams will face Luke Weaver for the Cardinals at Busch Stadium.
