Diamondbacks 11, Pirates 4

Tyler Glasnow made his seventh start of the season and it was disastrous. After making some improvements in each of his last previous starts, this one fell apart with the Pirates falling 11-4.

Glasnow has been plagued with allowing a huge inning all year and this game was no different. He started the game with two scoreless innings where he struck out three batters. Yes, everything seemed to be going so well. Then the third innings came and Tyler’s struggles came back to haunt him as he allowed seven runs on six hits, one walk, with two home runs given up. What made it even worse was the fact that all of this happened while only recording one out. He only lasted 2.1 innings this game while throwing 63 pitches and raising his season ERA to 7.98.

The pitching wouldn’t get much better once Glasnow was pulled from the game. Josh Lindblom would enter the game and pitch 3.2 innings in long relief. Though he struck out five batters, he also allowed four runs on eight hits.

The offense wasn’t totally anemic this game. Pittsburgh scored four runs which ties the most they’ve scored since Cinco De Mayo. Josh Bell and Gregory Polanco each recorded two RBI’s in the contest. Bell’s came from a two run shot that went 432 feet over center field. Polanco has been heavily criticized for his play, which has been rightfully so, but it appears he has been playing quite well of late. Since April 23, Polanco has a 122 wRC+ with one homer, eight doubles, and 17 hits. Bell also has played well since the beginning of the season sporting a 136 wRC+ with six homer, three doubles, and 21 hits.

As for Arizona, AJ Pollock, David Peralta, Jake Lamb, and Brandon Drury each collected multiple hits today while combining for six runs, seven RBI’s, and a home run. Patrick Corbin started and pitched six innings while giving up all four earned runs. He was able to strikeout just three batter and also allowed six hits and two walks.

Pittsburgh will face the Diamondbacks again on Saturday at 8:10 PM. Trevor Williams will make his second start of the season and face Taijuan Walker.
