The Pirates and Tigers close out their home and home series this afternoon in an early 12:35 start. Did I mention before that I love afternoon games almost as much as my beautiful wife and 6-month old puppy? All games should be afternoon games like in the 50s.
Anyway, Gerrit Cole takes the mound against Jordan Zimmerman in what should be a good pitching matchup. Cole struggled in his first start of the season, allowing three runs in 4.0 innings of work against the Reds last week. He even admitted that he was “rusty” in his first start since he had a late start to spring training inflammation. Hopefully he gets back on track with more time on the mound, and the Bucs sure could use a stellar outing to snap a two-game skid to the Tigers.
Zimmerman looks to continue his hot start to the season after blanking the Yankees in his first start on Friday. The former Nationals pitcher has struggled in two career starts against the Pirates when he was a member of the Nats. He’s 0-2 with a 6.00 ERA in 12 innings against the Bucs.
This game will also be televised on MLB Network for anyone outside of the Pittsburgh and Detroit viewing area. The lineup is below as Chris Stewart gets the start to catch Cole this afternoon. Stewart homered in his only other start of the season.
