“You win after that, it’s called a winning streak. It…has…happened…before.”
Major League quotes never get old. The Bucs have won their past four out of five games, including their past two games and have a chance to get a nice winning streak going with Gerrit Cole on the mound tonight against Jorge De La Rosa at 8:40PM.
This is an important stretch for the team as following this series, the Pirates return home and will face divisional teams in their next 15 games, two of those series being against the Cubs. Finishing the road trip off strong at Coors Field would be nice heading into those NL Central games.
De La Rosa has been anything but good this season. Last series, the Bucs were shut down by a different De La Rosa (Rubby), but Jorge has been a mediocre veteran for some time. The 35-year old made four starts so far this month and has given up at least four runs in each start and only pitched past the 6th inning once. He’ll have a high strikeout total (23 k’s in 17.1 IP), but he’s been hit hard as well. The Pirates offense should be able to work the count against him and score some runs.
I’m interested to see how McCutchen does tonight against De La Rosa following his day off. In 19 career at-bats against the southpaw, Cutch is hitting .316/.435/.526. Maybe being at Coors against a lefty he’s had success against will jump-start Cutch from his bad April start.
