Jameson Taillon will make the 5th start of his young career tonight against the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field at 10:10PM EST.
Taillon opened his career with a solid start against the Mets allowing three runs over 6.0 innings and then blanking the Mets at Citi Field in his second career start with eight shutout innings. Since then, however, he’s hit a bit of a wall with two mediocre outings of very similar outings—four runs allowed in just four innings against the Cubs and Dodgers. Tonight, he faces the Mariners for the first time as well as his first American League team and the DH. Taillon is most certainly going to take his licks and hopefully that’s what his last two starts were.
The Mariners will toss LHP Wade Miley out against the Bucs tonight, and that should be a good thing. Last night the bats were silent against Iwakuma, who has struggled for much of the season. Tonight, the offense has to be alive to not let Miley off with a good start. Miley, for a lack of a better term, stinks as a Major League starter. Miley owns a 5.28 ERA and 4.87 FIP and has a 0.0 WAR, which means he’s a replacement level player. Of course Miley would own a 2.14 ERA against the Pirates in five starts, however. The Pirates usually love their lefties and they need to flip the script on Miley tonight and provide Taillon with some run support.
