The Pirates went into San Francisco believing that they were facing a last place team who can’t hit. The Giants did not play like any of the words mentioned. They played it tough with the Pirates being rewarded with a 2-1 win. Starling Marte had a costly brain error in left field in the 7th. He misplayed a Brandon Belt hit over by the line and the wall. With two outs and a runner on second, running with two outs, Miguel Gomez scored. A very tough way to end the ballgame puts the Pirates now two games under .500.
The offense did not contribute much at all Wednesday. Josh Harrison and Adam Frazier both collected two hits and Francisco Cervelli one. The team only managed to deliver five hits. Adam Frazier’s one out double in the 2nd scored John Jaso for the only run. Trevor Williams pitched very well today going six innings, giving up five hits, one run, three walks, and striking out two. Tony Watson took the loss.
The Giants offense found the right time to strike. Brandon Belt and Brandon Crawford drove in both runs. Denard Span, Belt, Gomez, Joe Panik, and Buster Posey all collected a hit a piece. Gorkys Hernandez collect two hits. Jeff Samardzija has struggled all season but not in his two starts against the Pirates. Samardzija pitched seven strong innings giving up four hits, one run, two walks, and striking out eight. Sam Dyson collected the save.
