The red hot Pirates look to continue this streak by facing the Reds today. First pitch is scheduled for 1:35 and will be thrown by Jeff Locke.
Locke enters today’s game coming off of the best start of his season. In that game, he pitched 6 innings of shutout baseball while striking out eight batters. For the season, Locke owns a 5.03 ERA and a 15/15 K/BB rate. It hasn’t been the best start of his career, but he recently has shown signs of putting it together.
The lineup will feature both Starling Marte and Andrew McCutchen even after the injuries they endured last night. Most probably would have expected at least a day off by Marte, but this would suggest that the two outfielders are feeling good.
David Freese will take the day off today, as well as Francisco Cervelli. With Freese out of the lineup, Josh Harrison will take his 9 game hit streak into the three hole. During that span, JHay is batting .448 with four extra base hits and eight RBI’s.
The Reds had their Ace scheduled to pitch today, but Rasiel Iglesias is being scratched due to a pinch in his pitching shoulder. Tim Adleman will get the nod and make his major league debut in the process. The 28 year old rookie owns a 3.79 ERA in the minors, and is coming off of a 2.64 ERA season in Double A. This year was his first taste of Triple A baseball, and as a 28 year old player, that typically doesn’t say much about your position as a prospect.
