The Pirates found the offense necessary to pull out a nice 6-2 win at home vs Tampa Bay. The team bounced back after a tough loss Tuesday. All aspects of the team performed well to lead the charge. Today’s game shows that with good pitching, the team can compete in any game and also compete no matter what happens to throw them off.
The team received great offense from Josh Bell along with others. Bell hit his 15th home run of the year to extend his streak of home runs for a rookie before the All-Star break. Elias Díaz and Jose Osuna both drove in two runs apiece. The team only produced six hits but it proved to be good enough. Ivan Nova pitched well going five innings giving up seven hits, two walks, and two runs with one strikeout. His pitching proved to be the difference for the team as well.
The Rays offense showed up in the hit department but not the same for the run department. Evan Longoria and Wilson Ramos drove in a run apiece for Tampa. Cody Dickerson, Tim Beckham, Longoria, and Adeiny Hechavarria all collected two hits a piece. Blake Snell started for Tampa and gave up all six runs for the Bucs. The team was not able to provide the necessary offense and pitching to compete for a win.
