The Pirates were able to battle and come from behind with the win. It wasn’t pretty, especially at the beginning. Tyler Glasnow gave up two runs while walking three in 1.2 innings. The struggle was real for our top prospect as he was not able to miss any bats today. Taillon also pitched and looked good. He did give up a solo shot in two innings but struck out two as well.
The real story, however, was the spark the reserves provided. In the top of the 6th, the Pirates broke the scoring open. Alen Hanson singled in a run and then Jake Goebbert doubled in two. Pedro Florimon followed up by singling in Goebbert. This gave the Pirates a 6-5 lead and they never looked back after that.
Other than Sean Rodriguez, the starters struggled to put up any offense. Meanwhile Florimon, Diaz, and Hanson each had multiple hits today and were the driving force to give the Bucs the win. Trevor Williams also came in to close the game and looked solid posting two strikeouts and one hit in an inning of work.
Tomorrow the Pirates will face off against former division rival, the Houston Astros. Game time is set at 1:05 in Bradenton with sunny skies and a temperature of 70º.
