Another game in San Diego and another puzzling defeat to the Padres. The yinzers were able to bask in their glory last night as Jeff Locke pitched and gave up eight runs on 11 hits through three plus innings. It was ugly. They were all able to tell everyone last night that they were right about Locke…he sucks!!
I’m not going to defend Locke’s performance last night because it wasn’t good, but when was the last time you saw a team score four runs that included three infield singles and one single to left that went under your third baseman’s glove? The Padres were finding the perfect spots against Locke and the defense provided no help. Locke was hit harder in the 3rd inning when he allowed three runs and he was removed after Matt Kemp‘s homer to start the 4th inning. So much for this inept Padres offense that didn’t score a run for the first THREE games this season, right?
The bats promptly went away against Drew Pomeranz (yikes) until the 7th and 8th inning when they squeezed out a few runs. Matt Joyce had a home run taken away by BJ “Call me Melvin” Upton and it just wasn’t the Bucs night. It was a forgettable night all around for the black and gold.
They fall one game under .500 at 7-8 and will call on Gerrit Cole to try and avoid the sweep tonight.
