The Pirates and Orioles will travel the 12 and half miles south from McKechnie Field to Ed Smith Stadium to have their rematch this afternoon at 1:05PM. The Pirates defeated the Orioles 6-5 yesterday in Bradenton to improve their Grapefruit League record to 7-13-1.
Jon Niese will make just his third appearance of the spring today after missing a start due to a rain out and also threw in a minor league game. He’s allowed eight runs in just 5.0 innings this month. Jorge Rondon and Eric O’Flaherty are expected to pitch after Niese in this one.
The Orioles will counter with righthander Tyler Wilson, who made his MLB debut in 2015, posting a 2-2 record and 3.50 ERA in nine appearances and five starts. So far this spring, Wilson has allowed just three earned runs in 9.1 innings.
After yesterday’s lineup of regulars, Hurdle will go with a lineup of mostly backups to get another shot at them before more players are reassigned out of major league camp while the Orioles are rolling with mostly regulars.
