Pirates, Phillies

The Pirates will face the Phillies today at 1:05 from Bright House Field. If you’re going to the game though, temperature is set to be a 79° with just a 15% chance of showers.

Gerrit Cole was set to make his second start of the Grapefruit League today, but instead will pitch in a minors game. In his first outing, he looked comfortable even though he gave up two solo shots. Facing the Phillies instead today will be Kyle Lobstein. The Lobersterman is fighting for a spot on the Opening Day roster has tossed four scoreless innings this spring allowing three hits and striking out four batters.

Hurdle isn’t necessarily trying to give Lobstein the best run support with today’s lineup. I guess we are going to see the Polanco experiment at the lead off once again, while most of the every day players take in the game on the bench. The good news is that the Pirates offense has started to wake up recently as well, so giving this guys another hard look today will benefit the front office. There are going to be few really tough calls soon that determine who is staying in camp.

The Pirates will see an old friend today as well. Charlie Morton will take the hill for the Phillies today. Yes, we all know his stuff is electric, so the Pirates better come prepared. He has only pitched 2.1 innings so far, but has struck out two while giving up a run.
