The Pirates will look to end their three-game skid against the Red Sox this afternoon from McKechnie Field in Bradenton. This will be the first out-of-four meetings between the Bucs and Red Sox this spring since Bradenton and Fort Myers are only an hour and a half drive apart.
Ryan Vogelsong will make his second appearance of the spring and his first start for the Buccos. In his first outing last week against the Blue Jays, Vogelsong record a strong performance with two scoreless innings and two strikeouts.
Vogelsong tossed 135 innings last season with the Giants, going 9-11 with a 4.67 ERA in 33 appearances (22 starts). The Pirates signed him to a 1-year deal for $2M this offseason and plenty of criticism has been made of this signing. I’m not sure why exactly. Vogelsong is here for depth and as a bridge to Glasnow. He’ll make 8-10 starts this year for the Bucs and probably be the odd man out when Glasnow gets the call in June, barring injury of course.
Anyway, Vogelsong will toe the rubber at 1:05PM. The game will be televised on ROOT Sports and MLB-TV.
