Pirates Set Opening Day Roster

Finally, the Pirates have finalized their Opening Day roster. Today, they sent Jose Osuna to Triple-A leaving Phil Gosselin and Alen Hanson on the team as the last two bench spots. Jung Ho Kang is on the restricted list and will not count against the team’s active or 40-man roster.

Despite the hot takes on Twitter/FB, this shouldn’t be a shock to anyone. Osuna making the team to get a couple at-bats throughout the week makes zero sense and the positional flexibility of Hanson and Gosselin put them ahead of him. Osuna will see ABs everyday at Triple-A Indy and it’s nice to have the depth should an injury arise. Hanson is out of options, but makes the team for now with Jung Ho not allowed into the country. Hanson will have to prove himself in limited time/ABs.
