Pirates, Twins

The Pittsburgh Pirates will be facing off against the Minnesota Twins today at McKechnie Field with a game time of 1:05. The weather doesn’t look too promising as its scheduled for rain. This would be the weekend that the North Shore Nine makes its way to Bradenton.

Today’s starter will be Jon Niese. As most pitchers, he’s had a shaky start to his Spring. He’s recorded a 14.4 ERA in 5 innings. While facing a good lineup in the twins today, it will be good to see his command improve.

The lineup features an almost every day lineup you’d expect in PNC this season. It will also feature Andrew McCutchen in the two hole for the second game this spring. This experiment certainly is interesting, and could see its benefits down the line. I for myself, just do not trust trust anyone else on this team o command the three hole, and is why I may rather see Cutch there instead. Harrison, who is having a solid spring, will now be in that three spot, and Marte will be back in the four.

The Twins will throw Tommy Milone today. Milone, has had a good spring pitching to a 2 ERA in nine innings of work. He’s coming off of a 3.92 ERA.

The Pirates look to get Melancon, Watson, Feliz, and O’Flaherty in the game as well. Melancon has already shown he’s ready for the season to begin as he’s thrown five innings of shutout baseball. Personally, I’d like to see O’Flaherty earn a spot in the pen, so here’s to hoping for another good outing from him as well.
