The Pirates meet the Phillies today at McKechnie Field for the first of three games between the two Pennsylvania teams this spring. The Bucs are 2-3-1 in Grapefruit League action. Today’s game will be televised on MLB TV at 1:05PM.
LHP Jeff Locke will be on the hill for the Pirates today in his second appearance this spring. He was hit around in his first outing on Wednesday against the Tigers while working on a new delivery. Locke surrendered four runs on four hits in 2.0 innings of work. I expect a more consistent outing from Locke this afternoon. Tony Watson, Eric O’Flaherty, Jorge Rondon, A.J. Schugel and Trey Haley are also scheduled to pitch against Philly.
The Phillies will counter with righty Vincent Velasquez. A second round pick back in 2010, Velasquez posted a 4.37 ERA and a 9.4 K/9 in 55.2 innings last season with the Astros. He was one of the slew of prospects that were sent to Philadelphia in the Ken Giles deal in the offseason.
