Well, so much for a confidence booster today in Indianapolis. The Pirates lost their final game before the season to a tune of 13-6. It certainly was not pretty out there, both defensively and aesthetically. The wind was blowing so hard that the flag poles were literally bending.
Wilfredo Boscan continued his bad spring by allowing eight runs (five earned) in just 2.2 innings pitched. He did happen to strike out 4, but that doesn’t speak much to this lineup. Boscan will stay put as he will officially be sent to Indy immediately.
The majority of the game was played by a handful of minor leaguers who aren’t even real prospects, so the outcome of the game doesn’t hold much meaning. There were a few bright spots, however. Andrew McCutchen did manage to draw a walk and get a hit. Following Cutch was a David Freese liner that made it way out of the park for a two run shot. Jason Rogers was also able to provide two RBI’s by netting a double in the contest.
At this point, everyone is just focused on packing and making their way to PNC to focus on the Cardinals for Opening Day. The Pirates seem to be holding off on releasing their 25 man roster until tomorrow, which makes all of us wait and wonder in the meantime. There are some rumbles that Jason Rogers will start the season in Indianapolis, meaning both Cole Figueroa and Pedro Florimon will make the roster. Each of the latter are out of options and Rogers still has one, so this does make some sense for the meantime.
Tomorrow is the big day! Baseball is finally back and your Pittsburgh Pirates will host the St. Louis Cardinals in the very first MLB game of 2016. Game time is at 1:05PM at beautiful PNC Park. Currently, the weather is set to be partly cloudy with a game temperature of 39º. As much as I wish I was there, something tells me I will enjoy watching this one from the comfort of my home in Jacksonville, FL. Let’s Go Bucs!!
