Stop me if you’ve already heard this one before—Billy Hamilton and Scooter Gennett get the job done for the Reds in a 6-2 win over the Pirates. Yeah, it was the same story Monday night as Tuesday night. The Reds have outscored the Pirates 13-3 through two games in this series.
Hamilton laced a two-out single in the top of the 7th inning off Juan Nicasio to break a 2-2 tie, and Gennett put the game away with a three-run bomb off Trevor Williams in the 8th inning. That HR was Gennett’s second in as many nights and three on the season already. The Reds now have hit 12 home runs in eight games so far in 2017.
Pirates starter Jameson Taillon pitched well and kept to his team in it as he left a tie game after 6.0 innings of work. He allowed two runs on four hits with one walk and four strikeouts. After two starts this season, Taillon has a 1.38 ERA.
There’s not much to talk about the offense tonight. The Pirates scored two runs—one on a double steal and the other on an error. And that was it. Andrew McCutchen and Josh Harrison each recorded two hits, but all the Pirates six hits were singles. Monday night, it was just four hits for the Pirates. The Reds bullpen has basically shut the Bucs down in this series.
The Pirates will look to salvage this series with the Reds as they try to avoid the sweep Wednesday night with first pitch at 7:05. RHP Ivan Nova will start for the Bucs opposite Reds rookie LHP Amir Garrett.
