The split-squad Tigers must have been re-energized from Mr. Winner Jim Harbaugh coaching first base for them as they lit up the Pirates at McKechnie Field 10-3 this afternoon.
The big news in this game was Jeff Locke’s struggles in the first inning. The Tigers got three straights hit off Locke followed by a HBP, an error and another hit that ended in a four-run 1st inning for Detroit. His second inning was much quieter and that was it for him on the day, finishing with 2.0 innings, four hits, four runs and one walk. According to reports on the broadcast, Locke was working on a new delivery and only had one hard hit ball off him on Saltalamacchia’s double. Plus, the error behind him didn’t help either. Honestly, I’m not concerned at all about this outing. It’s his first outing of the spring. Let’s not lose our shit over it like most of Pirates Twitter were today.
The bats were pretty quiet today. Josh Bell had an RBI on a fielder’s choice for the Pirates only run until the ninth inning when the Bucs scored two runs off a Tigers pitcher that Block and Walk didn’t even know who he was when he came in to pitch the 9th inning.
Pirates stay in Bradenton tomorrow to host the Blue Jays at 1:05PM.
