Jason Mackey of the Post-Gazette reports that Jake Lamb has agreed to a Minor League deal with the Pirates that includes an invite to big league camp.
The 33-year old has played in the Majors for parts of 10 seasons with most of his playing time coming at third base.
Lamb hit 59 home runs between 2016 and 2017 for Arizona before falling off a cliff, accumulating a grand total of 0.0 fWAR since.
Lamb will serve as depth and will likely begin the season in Indianapolis.
Despite his struggles of late, he’s still likely a step up from some of the infield depth pieces of the last few years (Vinny Capra, Drew Maggi, etc). However, I’d expect something will have gone terribly wrong if we see Lamb get any substantial playing time in 2024.
