Robert Murray reported, during the first half of the Super Bowl, that the Pittsburgh Pirates were in “serious talks” with Yasmani Grandal. Francys Romero followed later by reporting the deal was done between the catcher and the team.
Grandal has spent the last four seasons with the Chicago White Sox. In 2023 he slashed .234/.309/.339 with a .647 OPS. Behind the plate he had a .995 fielding percentage with a 15% caught stealing rate.
He joins Henry Davis, Jason Delay and Ali Sanchez as the Pirates catching options.
