Triple A? C2? Henry Davis is playing like he wants the Pirates to look like fools if he isn’t the starting catcher on March 28th in Miami.
Not only did Davis go 1 for 2 with a 2-run HR and a walk, but he also had another solid showing behind the plate. It was the third straight game he has homered in.
On the mound, Luis Ortiz looked good in three innings of work. He gave up a run on one hit, while striking out three, all in the 1st inning.
Paul Skenes came on in relief in the 4th inning and gave up a home run to Amed Rosario, who turned on an inside 100mph fastball. Skenes then settled down after a dribbler into RF to retire the final three batters of the inning including a strikeout of Jose Caballero. Skenes also had the 5th inning and added another two strikeouts. Guys, without getting too much into it, he looks crazy good.
Bubba Chandler also delivered a 1-2-3 7th inning in his first appearance of the Spring. Kyle Nicoloas gave up a run in his inning of relief and Hunter Stratton pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning as both now seem to be in a battle for a bullpen spot after the Dauri Moreta news yesterday.
Jack Suwinski and Canaan Smith-Njigba both went deep off Rays’ starter Aaron Civale for their first big flies of spring.
The Pirates host the Blue Jays in Bradenton tomorrow at 1:05. Jared Jones is set to start vs Jose Berrios.
