We’ve been begging for someone to stake a claim for one of these open rotation spots. Jared Jones did that tonight.

Facing a Braves lineup stacked with quite a few regulars, the 22-year old put together his best performance of the spring. Jones gave up just two hits, one walk, and struck out four over four scoreless innings before giving way to the Pirates bullpen.

Jack Suwinski continued his hot streak, going 3 for 3 with his 3rd HR in four games raising his Grapefruit League OPS to 1.126.

Brent Honeywell Jr. and Hunter Stratton each tossed a scoreless inning as they battle for a spot in the Pirates’ bullpen. Stratton has yet to give up a run over eight appearances this spring. Ryder Ryan, another non-roster invitee, also tossed two scoreless frames.

The Pirates face the Rays tomorrow at LECOM Park. Josh Fleming will start, his first of the spring.
