The Pirates defeated the Phillies 11-2 today, advancing to 11-13 this spring.
Oneil Cruz crushed two home runs, each traveling over 400 feet. He went 3-4 on the day, tallying six RBIs. Rowdy Tellez also went deep, a three-run shot in the 3rd inning. The Pirates continue to produce via the long ball, with an MLB-best 46 home runs in Spring Training.
In addition to Tellez and Cruz, several other Pirates hitters had a multi-hit game. Ke’Bryan Hayes, Henry Davis, Jared Triolo, and Billy McKinney combined for 9 hits.
On the pitching front, Martin Perez was effective in five innings of work. Perez allowed just two runs, striking out eight Phillies batters. Roansy Contreras followed Perez, getting five outs without allowing a run. Contreras tallied five strikeouts but struggled with his command, allowing three walks. Wily Peralta provided two strikeouts in a scoreless inning of work.
