Jack Suwinski has a reputation amongst Pirates fans for recording hits when the game is out of hand. Tonight, he and the Pirates accomplished this feat in the second inning.

Suwinski’s double was one of just four Pirates hit as the team sputtered to an 8-1 loss against the Boston Red Sox. Despite a lineup decimated by injuries, the Sox posted eight runs on twelve hits and three walks.

Quinn Priester was trouble when he walked in, giving up home runs to Wilyer “Ted Williams” Abreu and Triston “Also Ted Williams” Casas in the first inning. Another run scored in the second after a poor fielding decision from Priester, and he was pulled after surrendering a two-run homer to Rob Refsnyder in the top of the fourth. Priester threw a total of 86 pitches in just 4.1 innings, giving up three home runs in total and striking out two batters.

The lone run for the Pirates came in the ninth inning. 31-year-old Cam Booser made his major league debut and surrendered a triple to Alika Williams. Edward Olivares drove in Williams on a groundout.

The Pirates look to shake it off tomorrow afternoon with Mitch Keller, as he takes the mound for a 4:05 PM start.
