Mitch Keller couldn’t catch a break in what turned out to be an ugly, and costly 1st inning. Jarren Duran tagged Keller for a triple to lead off the contest, and then scored on an infield hit which slowly rolled up the line and hit the third-base bag.

The Pirates then failed to turn a double play and Triston Casas drew a very questionable walk. When the dust settled, the Red Sox took a 2-0 lead.

The Pirates were able to get on base, but not able to deliver a big hit against Kutter Crawford. Jared Triolo cashed in a single for an RBI in the 4th, but the Pirates ended up leaving 8 on base as a team.

The Red Sox would add the two decisive runs on a 2-run home run by Masataka Yoshida in the sixth inning.

Bryan Reynolds collected 3 hits, and Connor Joe smoked a pinch-hit solo home run in the 8th inning.

Overall, the Pirates can’t buy a big hit at the moment, and need to get their big guys going. I highlighted Suwinski, Tellez and Cruz as lefty bats that could make a difference today. They combined to go 0-9 with 4K. They’re too important to this team to have that continue much longer.
