The Pittsburgh Pirates fall to a season low 4 games under .500 at 14-18 on the season. The Oakland Athletics swept the Pirates in their last series ever in Oakland, winning 4-0. The Pirates failed to score a run for the 2nd time this road trip. Over this series in Oakland they only managed to score three runs against the A’s, who put up 14 versus the Pirates.
Quinn Priester pitched a good game for the Pirates giving up two earned runs over six inning pithed. Aroldis Chapman pitched a clean inning as well striking out two. David Bednar gave up a run in his inning pitched, a single followed by a stolen base and another single accounted for his earned run. Offensively the Pirates only managed four hits. They were able to get runners on bases especially late in the game but were unable to force a run across the plate. This was the first sweep the A’s have completed this year.
Pirates have an off day tomorrow and they will need it after a poor end of April and an even poorer start to May.
