Jared Jones looked pretty good tonight after giving up an early home run to Cody Bellinger. He would end up finishing with six innings, giving up 7 hits but only two earned runs.

The offense was annoyingly quiet again. The first inning was the only time the Pirates showed a threat of serious damage. Nick Gonzales made the most of his season debut, smacking a single into center field and driving in the Pirates only two runs of the game.

His later at bats showed his consistent struggles with major league off-speed pitches, but I can’t fault him tonight.

Oneil Cruz looked good again tonight, collecting two hits, a walk, and later scored a run.

A real turning point was where Cruz made a tremendous relay throw to the plate to gun down Nico Hoerner. Yasmani Grandal caught the ball, but had it jarred loose after the slide from Hoerner.

The Bucs could not battle back late, not scoring in the last 8 innings of play. Tune back in tomorrow at 4:10 for the highly anticipated debut of #1 prospect, Paul Skenes.
