Paul Skenes will make his MLB Debut today against the Chicago Cubs. Being dubbed the ‘best pitching prospect since Stephen Strasburg,’ Skenes’ debut has garnered national attention. Today’s game will even be televised nationally via MLB Network.

Justin Steele will take the mound for the Cubs. It will be Steele’s third start of the season, following a 2023 campaign where he placed 5th in CY Young voting.

Facing stiff competition on the mound, the Pirates lineup will look to finally break out of its ice-cold streak. The Pirates lineup will be loaded with right-handed bats against the lefty Steele. With Ke’Bryan Hayes being placed on IL with back inflammation, Jared Triolo will start again at 3B. Oneil Cruz will bat cleanup despite facing a left-handed starter. He will look to remain hot, posting a 1.087 OPS thus far in May.
