Quinn Priester struggled as tonight’s starter, allowing four runs in six innings. He was outdueled by Brewers’ starter Joe Ross, who allowed just two runs in five innings of work.

The Brewers opened the scoring in the 2nd inning, scoring four runs. The first two runs came on a two-run home run by Sal Frelick. Priester bounced back after the 2nd inning, shutting the Brewers out through the next four innings.

The Pirates cut the lead to 4-2 in the 4th inning, as Nick Gonzales crushed a two-run bomb. It was Gonzales’ first home run of the season. In the 9th inning, Connor Joe pulled a solo home run to left field, cutting the lead to 4-3. However, Jack Suwinski struck out the next at-bat, ending the game.

The offense will look to do better tomorrow against Brewers’ rookie Robert Gasser. Gasser posted six shutout innings in his debut last week. Martin Perez will take the bump for the Pirates. Also, Carmen Mlodzinski is expected to be called up from AAA. This will require corresponding move, which should be announced sometime tomorrow.
