The Pittsburgh Pirates lost 1-0 to the Cubs on a walk off in the bottom of the 9th. A pitchers duel was spoiled by the bad call at the plate that ended the 9th inning. Joey Bart clearly tagged Bellinger out at the plate before the ball was swatted out of his glove. However the umpire on the field and those at headquarters forget to put their glasses on today leading to the frustrating loss.
A expected a pitchers duel was what baseball fans were given at Wrigley this afternoon. Bailey Falter was masterful, scattering 3 hits over 7.2 innings walking two and striking out two. Shota Imanaga was equally as good giving up four hits striking out seven over 7 innings of work.
It got dicey for the Pirates in the bottom of the 8th when the Cubs managed to load the bases. However, a strikeout of Patrick Wisdom by Colin Holderman ended the threat. Hector Neris came in and struck out two in the top of the ninth to send the game to the walk off zone. Enter David Bednar. A fly out started the inning for Bednar. A Cody Bellinger double put the game in jeopardy, Chistopher Morel then singled and there was a play at the plate. Which the umpires and New York managed to mess up, ending the game.
Pirates will look for the series win tomorrow with Mitch Keller on the mound.
