The Pittsburgh Pirates outhit the Cubs 10-3, managing to win the game 3-2. Mitch Keller pitched very well in his six innings and the bullpen was able to shut down the cubs over three innings to secure the win.
The Pirates took an early lead in the 2nd inning off a Jack Suwinski solo home run. That lasted until the bottom of the 3rd when a one out triple by Mike Tauchman threatened to tie the game up. Seiya Suzuki hit a sac-fly to tie the game at one. The game remained tied until the top of the 5th, when with the bases loaded Nick Gonzales hit a two RBI single up the middle to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead.
The bottom of the 6th started off in the Cubs favor. Suzuki got hit by a pitch and Cody Bellinger doubled tot eh right field corner. A sac fly cut the lead to 3-2 with one out and Bellinger still on 2nd base. Fortunately, the Pirates were able to get back to back fly outs to RF to end the frame still up 3-2.
Pirates were unable to score any more runs, however Colin Holderman was able to pitch a scoreless 7th and Aroldis Chapman the 8th. This brought on David Bednar for the bottom of the 9th. Who was able to shut it down, earning the save and the series win.
The Pirates are back in action Tuesday against the San Francisco Giants. Martin Perez will be on the mound for the Pirates going up against Logan Webb, game time will be 6:40 PM at PNC Park.
