The Pittsburgh Pirates were unable to do much against Tarik Skubal and Jared Jones was less than sharp in an 8-0 drubbing.
The game did not start well for the Pirates. They managed a hit in the top of the first which was fine, however the bottom half was an issue. Jared Jones did not look like the version that fans have been used to seeing. He started the game surrendering a triple and back-to-back singles. After a sac-fly it was quickly 2-0 Tigers with just one out. A Ke’Bryan Hayes error put men on the corners, a force out scored a 3rd run before Jones was able to get a strike out to end the inning. The Pirates managed a walk and a single in the second, but they were unable to push any runs across. Jones was able to settle in the second and get through the inning unscathed. Tarik Skubal continued to stymy the Pirates in the 3rd retiring them in order.
Things went smoothly for Jones until the bottom of the 5th. A ground out, a walk and an error put two on with one out. Matt Vierling then homered to push the score to 6-0 Tigers. After a Riley Green double, Jones was pulled for Luis Oritz. Who promptly gave up a pair of singles making it 7-0 Tigers.
The Tigers would add another in the 7th to take the score to 8-0. Which is how the game would eventually end as the Pirates were unable to score any runs in the shutout.
