The Pittsburgh Pirates won the second end of the double header 10-2 over the Tigers. Paul Skenes, Andrew McCutchen and Nick Gonzales led the way for the Pirates.
A quick first greeted the Pirates both at the plate and behind it to start the second part of the double header. Then in the second the Tigers managed a run off of Paul Skenes to go up 1-0. Fortunately, it was a case of history repeating itself. In the top of the 3rd after a pair of singles by Jared Triolo and Ji-Hwan Bae, and a strike out by Grant Koch, Cutch happened. Andrew McCutchen hit a 3-run homerun to give the Pirates a 3-1 lead. In the fourth Nick Gonzales hit a solo shot to push it for 4-1. During this time Skenes settled in pitching scoreless frames in the 3rd, 4th and 5th, including a span of 5 strikeouts in a row.
In the 6th Gonzales doubled to lead off the frame. He went to third on a wild pitch and came in to score on a Triolo sac-fly making it 5-1 Pirates. Skenes came out to pitch the 6th and gave up a 2-out homerun cutting the lead to 5-2 for the Pirates. In the top of the 7th Koch walked making it the first time he got on base in the majors. Cutch then followed up with a double down the right field line. Koch then scored on the Bryan Reynolds sac-fly, also advancing to 3rd base was Cutch. Connor Joe then hit a infield single scoring Cutch from 3rd and making it 7-2 Pirates. Aroldis Chapman came in to pitch a scoreless 7th. In the 8th Cutch got yet another hit this time a RBI single to make it 8-2 Pirates. Colin Holderman came on pitching a scoreless 8th, leading the game to the 9th inning. Pirates add a pair in the ninth off a Oneil Cruz triple and a Gonzales single. David Bednar came on to work the 9th pitching a scoreless inning.
