Quinn Priester started for the Pirates, lasing just 4.2 innings and accumulating four earned runs.

Rowdy Tellez opened the scoring, ripping an RBI-single to right field in the 3rd inning. However, in the bottom half of the inning, the Blue Jays tied the game on a Quinn Priester wild pitch.

Tellez came through again in the top of the 5th, roping a two-run double to right-center field. Ke’Bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz scored, each singling earlier in the inning.

In the bottom of the 5th, Quinn Priester struggled. He allowed three singles and a run, then was relieved by Hunter Stratton with two baserunners still on. Daniel Vogelbach welcomed Stratton to the game with a two-run double, giving the Blue Jays a 4-3 lead. Stratton would come back out for the 6th, allowing another run via a Davis Schneider double.

In the 9th inning, Tellez came through again. After Cruz led off the inning with a double, Tellez drove him in with an opposite-field single. This was Tellez’s third hit and fourth RBI of the game, cutting the Blue Jays lead to 5-4. However, Ji-Hwan Bae came up to the plate next, striking out to end the game.

The Pirates are back in action Tuesday night at 6:40 against the Dodgers. This will be the first of a three-game series, kicking off a six-game homestand. Jared Jones will take the mound, dueling with former Pirate Tyler Glasnow.
