The Pittsburgh Pirates and Jared Jones, they have a thing going on. Jared Jones threw a up and down game for the Pirates, which was still one of the more impressive starts of his young career. He managed to hold the Dodgers scoreless over six innings. Jack Suwinski in his first game back in the majors hit a solo home run to give the Pirates an early lead. It would end up being all the Pirates would need.

Jared Jones was up and down in his first three innings of work. He was unable to have a clean frame and had men in scoring positions in each of those frames. However, he was able to get out of each without giving up any runs. The Pirates struggled to get things going offensively against Tyler Glasnow. However in the 3rd inning newly recalled Jack Suwinki hit a solo homerun to give the Pirates a 1-0 lead.
The 4th went much the same for Jones but he was once again able to get through unstained. In he bottom of the inning Pirates were able to get a baserunner via an error but that was the best they could manage. Jones then went back into early season form for the 5th and 6th retiring the side in order in both frames with 4 strikeouts. Holderman gave up a double in 7th to start the frame. But was able to bear down and get the next three batters out to preserve the lead. The Pirates were able to threaten to add runs in the 6th and 7th however they were unable to push a run across.
Onto the 8th, enter Aroldis Chapman. We may never be sure how many Tums were consumed by Pirate nation during this frame, but it was a lot. Yet when the dust settled Chapman was able to get through the heart of the Dodgers lineup without giving up a run. Pirates then again went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 8th, bringing on David Bednar to pitch the 9th. Bednar pitched a 1-2-3 inning to close the door and secure a Pirate win.
The Pirates will be back in action tomorrow evening again against the Dodgers. Paul Skenes will face off versus James Paxton.
