This game quickly turned into a pitchers duel. Bailey Falter was the beneficiary of three double plays in the first three innings. This helped him scatter seven hits over his seven innings of work.
Falter would exit after seven innings, only allowing two runs on a home run from Santiago Espinal.
Nick Lodolo is healthy again and he was nothing short of dominant tonight. Lodolo had all of his pitches working, striking out eight in seven innings of work.
Lodolo was also efficient, inducing 10 ground ball outs and only throwing 95 pitches. The lone run Lodolo conceded came on a Ke’Bryan Hayes home run in the 7th inning.
The Pirates threatened in the 8th, but got caught on a tough luck double play as Bryan Reynolds smoked a ball to centerfield, but it was caught at the wall.
No action in the 9th, and the Bucs fell 2-1. The series finale will be at 12:35 when Mitch Keller takes the hill.
