The Pirates held on to win a pitchers duel in the afternoon rubber match. Bryan Reynolds once again gave the Pirates the offense they needed to take 2 of 3 from the Reds.
Mitch Keller was great through three innings today, allowing only a walk through three and striking out five. Hunter Greene allowed a number of hits in his first three but was able to bear down when needed to keep the Bucs from pushing a run across. In the 4th Green and Keller both kept their foot on the gas cruising through the opposing batters. Same went for the 5th on both side, cementing the game as a Pitchers duel.
Both again made short work of opposing batters in the 6th, moving the game to the 7th. Keller remained on point in the 7th. In the bottom half Rowdy Tellez missed a home run by inches and needed luck to make it to 2nd base. However that’s as far as he made it bringing the game to the 8th. Colin Holderman came in and got his job In the bottom of the frame, Bryan “Big Game” Reynolds answered the call. With 2 outs he hit a home run to CF for a 1-0 lead. David Bednar then came it to pitch a 1-2-3 9th for the save.
The Pirates will be back in action Friday against the visiting Rays.
