The Pittsburgh Pirates, shutout the Cardtoday 5-0. The Pirates arms looked shaky at times but were able to get through the game without giving up a run. Offensively the Pirates did just enough to win the game without looking great.

Martin Perez rose to the occasion in the first two innings. He got into a bit of trouble in the second but worked his way out. The Pirates struck in the second inning. Rowdy Tellez got the inning going with RBI single. Andrew McCutchen added a run with with a bases loaded walk. Connor Joe then followed with a 2-RBI single giving the Pirates a 4-0 lead.

Perez then came out and followed up with a 1-2-3 inning. Pirates bats then came out and did the same thing.Perez came out for another scoreless 4th inning that included an overturned out at 1B. The Pirates in the bottom of the frame got Rowdy. Rowdy Tellez opened the bottom of the frame with a moon shot clearing the RF seats. In the top of the 5th Perez got in some trouble but was able to get out of the frame without a run scored. Same thing for the 6th Perez ran into some issue but was able to pitch his way out of it.

The 6th came and went quickly for both squads, leaving the score 5-0 Pittsburgh. Carmen Mlodzinski came in to pitch the 7th for the Pirates. While he ran into some trouble he was able to get through the inning unscathed. Colin Holderman then came on for a scoreless 8th, as the pirates moved into the bottom of the frame up 5-0. Pirates go 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 8th, brining the game to the final frame. Aroldis Chapman can won the finish the game for the Pirates and give them the series win.

The Pirates will be back in action Friday evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix. First pitch is scheduled for 9:40 PM EST.
