On a day where the Pirates missed out on trading for Jazz Chisholm, the current team lost their second straight game. They lost 9-5 to the Diamondbacks, a game that was dominated by the Diamondbacks most of the way.

Marco Gonzales had an awful start, pitching 2.1 innings and allowing 4 earned runs. Dennis Santana relieved him, providing 1.2 innings of scoreless baseball. However, Quinn Priester blew the game late, allowing 5 earned runs in 4 innings of action.

Offensively, Oneil Cruz led the way. He crushed a 472-foot bomb in the 1st inning. Later, he would triple and score. The offense was able to tie the game at 4 in the top of the 5th inning. However, that tie was short lived as Priester allowed 2 runs in the inning’s bottom half.

Mitch Keller will take the mound for the Pirates tomorrow at 4:10 P.M. ET. Yilber Diaz will make his fourth start of the season for the Diamondbacks. Now 3 games back of a Wild Card spot, the Pirates cannot afford to take a sweep heading into the trade deadline.
