The Pittsburgh Pirates are off to a solid start in spring training, improving to 2-0 with a 5-1 win. Mitch Keller impressed with two scoreless innings, showing command and avoiding the cutter—a pitch he struggled with last season. Encouraging signs from new pitching coach Brett Strom have fans optimistic about Keller’s 2025 campaign. Dennis Santana and Bubba Chandler also looked sharp on the mound.
On offense, it was a slow start, but the bats came alive when the reserves entered the game. Top prospects Termarr Johnson and Konnor Griffin delivered RBI singles, giving fans a glimpse of the Pirates’ future. Griffin, in particular, stood out with his speed.
With Paul Skenes set to start against the Phillies next, Pirates fans have plenty to look forward to. Stay tuned to North Shore Nine for more spring training coverage!
