The Pittsburgh Pirates may have lost 2-1 to the Atlanta Braves in spring training action, but there were plenty of positives to take away—especially on the mound. Jared Jones got the start and showed impressive velocity, sitting around 97 mph while also mixing in his new two-seamer. Thomas Harrington followed with a solid outing, despite struggling with his slider at times.

On offense, Joey Bart drove in the Pirates’ only run, while Ke’Bryan Hayes and Oneil Cruz each had a hit and stole a base. David Bednar and Colin Holderman both saw action out of the bullpen, with mixed results, while Tanner Rainey turned heads by striking out three straight batters.

While the bats were quiet, the Pirates saw encouraging performances from key players. With spring training just getting started, there’s plenty to build on as they prepare for Opening Day.
