North Shore Nine

The Pittsburgh Pirates fell to the Baltimore Orioles 6-3 in spring training action, but the game provided plenty of insights. Mitch Keller took the mound for his fourth start of the spring, showcasing an increased reliance on his changeup—a pitch he threw just 21 times last season. While he struggled in the second inning, giving up three earned runs, his ability to generate swings and misses with the changeup was a positive sign.

Jared Triolo had another standout moment, ripping his second triple of the spring and flashing elite defense at third base. Meanwhile, Jack Suwinski and Bryan Reynolds both delivered RBI hits, but the offense couldn’t capitalize late. On the pitching side, Braxton Ashcraft, Ryan Borucki, and Tanner Rainey each had strong outings.

Ke’Bryan Hayes’ continued absence raised concerns, as Derek Shelton revealed he’s dealing with left side tightness. With key roster spots still up for grabs, the Pirates’ spring battles remain heated.
